The American Apparel brand is returning to retail.

Canadian apparel maker Gildan Activewear Inc., which purchased the bankrupt downtown clothing manufacturer’s intellectual property for $88 million in February, plans to sell some of American Apparel’s classic items through its former ecommerce site starting Aug. 14, Gildan said in a news release.

American Apparel’s clothes were only available wholesale after the shuttering of its 110 retail stores this year.

“With a new and improved supply chain we will be incorporating our classic style with consistent sizing across all garments for women and men at a more affordable price point,” Gildan said in a statement.

The Montreal-based company didn’t say whether the clothes will be made in the United States, as was the case under American Apparel’s founder, Dov Charney, or overseas. Gildan didn’t take over the leases for American Apparel’s local manufacturing facilities when it acquired the brand.

Gildan Chief Executive Glenn Chamandy told Bloomberg in May that the company planned to give the American Apparel ecommerce site’s shoppers the option to buy products made in the United States for a higher price.

The company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
