Ariyan Kabir co-founded GrayMatter Robotics, a manufacturing and robotics startup based out of Gardena, in 2020. Though robots have long been a part of the manufacturing process, they are often relegated to repeatable tasks on the same parts. If a new item needs to be made, new robots need to be made as well. At GrayMatter, the company uses artificial intelligence to create robots that are largely autonomous by programming them to create a 3D scan of the part they are working on and account for any curves, bumps or dents on the part. Companies like GrayMatter are becoming more and more popular as the U.S. sees a decline in manufacturing workers, who often have to do dangerous work for low pay.
