LA500 2026: Jeanie Buss

Jeanie Buss

President
Los Angeles Lakers

Jeanie Buss shepherded one of the most pivotal transactions in professional sports when the Buss Family entered an agreement to sell majority ownership of the Los Angeles Lakers to Mark Walter, chief executive and chairman of TWG Global. The transaction closed in late October, valuing the franchise at $10 billion. Buss retained her role as governor, committing to remain at the helm for at least a five-year term. She assumed control of the Lakers in 2013 following her father, Jerry Buss’s death, and became the controlling owner in 2017 after a legal dispute with her older brothers. During her tenure, the team secured the 2020 NBA Championship and executed the trade that brought Luka Dončić to Los Angeles. As governor, she continues to guide the franchise’s strategic direction.
