A founding member of American Business Bank, Blankstein has guided the downtown Los Angeles institution since its 1998 inception – when he and fellow former 1st Business Bank officers launched the bank following Mellon Financial Corp.’s acquisition of their prior employer. Since then, the bank has grown to more than $4 billion in assets. In 2025, the bank opened a new Loan Production Office in Downtown Riverside, expanding its Southern California footprint to nine LPOs. Also late last year, they promoted two executives to executive vice presidents of Corporate Banking to accelerate growth, and the bank initiated its first-ever share repurchase program of up to 227,541 shares. Blankstein earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Southern California.
