Geffen’s first job was in the mailroom at the William Morris Agency. From there, he rose to the position of talent agent, representing musicians such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin and James Taylor. In 1972, he founded Asylum Records and then went on to start Geffen Records. Geffen partnered with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg in 1994 to launch Dreamworks SKG film studio. Geffen’s philanthropic efforts include the Geffen Academy at UCLA, Westwood’s Geffen Playhouse and David Geffen Hall at New York’s Lincoln Center. Geffen was No. 7 in the Business Journal’s last edition of Wealthiest Angelenos with a net worth of roughly $9 billion. Over the years, he has made investments in companies like Apple Inc. and Activision Blizzard.
