Gores founded Beverly Hills-based Platinum Equity in 1995, which self-defines its team as investors, operators, builders and change agents. The global investment firm spans all seven continents and manages nearly $50 billion worth of diversified assets.
Gores’ strategy involves combining traditional mergers and acquisitions with operational oversight with more than 450 acquisitions under Platinum’s belt to date. One recent deal includes a significant investment in R&B Wholesale Distributors, Inc., a home appliances distributor.
Last year, Gores made headlines when he purchased 27% stake in the L.A. Chargers. Additionally, this year marks the 10th year of Gores’ sole ownership of the Detroit Pistons.
He was No. 8 in the Business Journal’s most recent Wealthiest Angelenos with an estimated net worth of $8.8 billion, a 21% increase from the previous year, driven largely by an increase in Platinum Equity’s assets under management.
In his spare time, the multi-billionaire coaches youth soccer and basketball teams.
