Local companies continue to cash in on California’s high-speed rail project, with Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. in Pasadena announcing Tuesday it has been awarded the design services contract for the $1.2 billion second phase of the north-south rail line.
This phase of the project, which runs from Fresno to Bakersfield, covers about 65 miles of infrastructure improvements, including embankments, structures and new roadway grade separations.
Jacobs is the lead designer within a joint venture led by Costa Mesa firm Dragados USA Inc. and Flatiron West Inc. of Broomfield, Colo. That joint venture’s bid for the second phase beat out two other teams, one of which included Sylmar builder Tutor Perini Corp. and rival Pasadena engineering firm Parsons Corp.
Tutor Perini and Parsons are part of the group that won the bid in 2013 to build the first phase of the rail project, which stretches from Madera to Fresno.
