Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. late Monday said that it acquired a 500-person professional services firm in Atlanta called Jordan, Jones and Goulding Inc.

The Pasadena engineering company said the acquisition would expand its capabilities in the North American water and wastewater market, and broaden its position in the global aviation, transit, and transportation infrastructure markets. Jacobs did not disclose the terms of the transaction.

“Like many other challenges resulting from the aging infrastructure worldwide, water and wastewater is a critical concern,” said Chief Executive Craig Martin in a press release. “This acquisition boosts our global capabilities to support public and private clients with the water solutions they urgently need.”

Separately, Jacobs announced that it signed a five-year partnership agreement with the Devon County Council of the United Kingdom. The agreement, under which Jacobs will provide transport planning, structural engineering, environmental, waste and highway engineering services, is extendable to 10 years.

The contract’s value was not disclosed.

Shares were up 74 cents, or 2 percent to $37.54 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
