Two Los Angeles medical centers were ranked among the top dozen hospitals in the nation, making the honor roll of best U.S. hospitals, according to a U.S. News & World Report scorecard.

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center was rated No. 7 out of nearly 5,000 hospitals across the United States in the magazine’s “2017-18 Best Hospitals Honor Roll.” Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was rated No. 11.

U.S. News scored each hospital in 16 categories of complex specialty care, plus nine bellwether procedures from heart bypass to lung cancer surgery.

UCLA Medical Center, a teaching hospital with 466 beds and nearly 24,000 annual admissions, was ranked nationally in 15 adult and 10 pediatric specialties.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a teaching hospital with 885 beds and more than 47,000 admissions, was ranked nationally in 12 adult specialties. It ranked No. 1 on the Business Journal’s list of L.A.-area hospitals based on 2016 net patient revenue, with $3 billion in earnings.

Among the 23 regional hospitals scored in Greater Los Angeles, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach ranked third; Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena ranked fourth; and Keck Hospital of USC ranked fifth.

U.S. News launched its best regional hospitals guide in 2011 to provide consumers with an overall assessment of medical care. The top 20 make its Best Hospitals Honor Roll.

Each year, Americans check into a hospital at a rate of one per second, with more than 33 million hospitalizations a year, according to the magazine.

Its highest ranking hospital this year was the Mayo Clinic of Rochester, Minn., which nationally ranked in 24 specialties.
