Origin Nets Series B Fundraise

Brentwood-based Origin raises a series B round in advance of its aim to provide pelvic floor physical therapy.

Origin, a femtech company based in Brentwood, announced in late January it raised a series B funding round for an undisclosed amount.

SJF Ventures led the financing round, with additional participation from Blue Venture Fund, venture firm Gratitude Railroad, and the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank.

Origin connects patients, often those who had just given birth, with licensed physical therapists specializing in pelvic floor physical therapy that aids in postpartum health.

“Pelvic floor physical therapy is the standard of care,” said Carine Carmy, co-founder and chief executive at Origin, in a statement. “The data is clear: this effective, non-invasive therapy is the first line of treatment for dozens of women’s health issues, from postpartum recovery to incontinence.”

Rise of femtech

Origin is one of several femtech firms to offer specialized care for tech-savvy millennials.

New York-based Maven Clinic Co., founded in 2014 to help patients explore fertility and family planning treatment options, has raised more than $400 million to date. Tia, a women’s health clinic startup also out of New York, started in 2017 and has raised around $160 million.

Outside of Origin, Los Angeles is home to companies like Sawtelle-based Onto Health, which was founded in 2024 to focus on fertility.

Origin was founded to assist women with finding care for what it calls “commonly overlooked health issues,” like postpartum recovery.

“We’ve shifted pelvic floor therapy from niche to norm,” Carmy said.
