1-800-Dentist, a Los Angeles provider of marketing services to dentists, on Thursday said it raised an undisclosed sum of growth financing from Cue Ball Capital and Bain Capital Ventures.
As part of the deal, David Shaffer of Cue Ball, a Boston venture capital firm, has joined the company’s board of directors and will serve as executive chairman. Bain Capital Ventures is the Boston venture capital affiliate of Bain Capital. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“We saw 1-800-Dentist as completely aligned with Cue Ball’s investment strategy,” said Cue Ball General Partner Richard Harrington in a statement. “A great brand, a strong team and an attractive business model with tremendous growth potential.”
1-800-Dentist, which operates a nationwide dentist referral service, has been in business 25 years. Co-founder Fred Joyal has become well-recognized as the company’s spokesman in its television and radio advertisements.
“We have a unique culture here, and we found that both Bain and Cue Ball were a perfect fit,” said Chief Executive Gregg Coccari in a statement.
The company said that after the funding closed it acquired Dental Senders, which develops marketing and digital communications products for dental practices.
