The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of the largest local public companies rose slightly for the week. The weighted LABJ Stock Index ticked up 1 percent to 234, with an equal number of losers and gainers: 74. Seven companies closed the week unchanged.
Among stocks trading above $1, Commerce furniture designer and manufacturer Nova Lifestyle Inc. was the week’s top gainers. Shares rose 16 percent to close at $2.27 on Friday.
Tix Corp. was another winner this week. Shares of the Studio City ticket broker climbed 8 percent to close at $2.25 Friday.
Malibu toymaker Jakks Pacific Inc. was one of the week’s biggest losers. Shares fell 10 percent to close at $8.97 Friday, a big comedown after the company saw shares climb 33 percent last month.
Santa Monica auto-pricing company TrueCar Inc. also had a down week, seeing its shares tumble 8 percent to close Friday at $10.66. The drop came after AutoNation, the country’s largest car dealership chain, said it would cut ties with TrueCar later this month because of a dispute over data collection.
