The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of largest local public companies fell slightly for the week ended Jan. 28, as the markets were hurt by a move to less risky investments due to unrest in Egypt.

American Apparel Inc. fell 23.4 percent to $1.05 on word that the Los Angeles apparel maker’s second-largest shareholder, billionaire Ronald Burkle, had reduced his stake from 6 percent to 4.7 percent.

MannKind Corp., still hurting from U.S. Food and Drug Administration rejection of its inhaled insulin treatment, lost ground for a second week, falling 18 percent to $5.04.

Live Nation Entertainment Inc. dropped 7.7 percent to $10.26 after the Beverly Hills concert and ticketing company cut its annual profit forecast due to settlement costs from a class-action lawsuit against its Ticketmaster division.

Among the biggest gainers was Simulations Plus Inc., which jumped 17.4 percent to $10.10 after the Lancaster scientific software developer announced a five-year research agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

OSI Systems Inc. rose 10 percent to $37.27 after the Hawthorne maker of security screening systems and medical equipment reported a better-than-expected fiscal second quarter.
