Richard Ayoub joined Project Angel Food as interim executive director in November 2015 and was appointed executive director in May 2016. At the time, the organization was $400,000 in debt, had exhausted its line of credit and was months behind on loan payments. Ayoub restored confidence among staff, donors, volunteers and community partners. He did more than stabilize the organization; he reawakened belief in what it could become.
Over the past decade, Ayoub has grown Project Angel Food from a $3.8 million nonprofit serving approximately 1,050 people a day into a nearly $20 million organization serving about 3,000 seriously ill Angelenos daily. Today, it prepares and delivers more than 1.5 million medically tailored meals and provides nutrition counseling to more than 7,000 people each year, completely free of charge.
