Yolie Flores has dedicated her life to ensuring that students (and their families) furthest from opportunity have the education and support they need to succeed in life and career. In all the roles she has previously served in her career, including LAUSD Board member, to her current role as CEO and President of Families In Schools, she has led with courage and inclusiveness.
Most recently, Flores’ workhas brought attention to the important of Science of Reading statewide, and with the passage of AB 1454 in 2025, high-quality evidence-based reading materials will now be required with $200 million will now be available for teacher training. Her role to move beyond the “reading wars” to a consensus-driven movement has been profound.
