Play Equity Fund
Renata Simril has a longtime commitment to leadership and service. She was appointed the president & CEO of the LA84 Foundation in 2016, a legacy of the 1984 Summer Olympics, and later she founded the play equity movement and became president of the Play Equity Fund. She pursues mentorship opportunities with The Alliance, a collaboration between the Play Equity Fund and all 12 pro sports teams in the region that has created leadership programs and career pathways in the sports industry for local students in communities of color.
In 2022, Simril was appointed to Governor Gavin Newsom’s Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and Mental Well-Being. This year, she was appointed to the Board of Commissioners of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation & Parks, where she serves as president. Simril was also invited to serve as a Regents’ lecturer in the UCLA Department of Sociology.
