LABJ Insider: Truth Still Out There?
Dan Harary

Some well-known Hollywood storytellers have joined forces with UFO researchers and journalists to launch the Hollywood Disclosure Alliance. Co-founded by veteran publicist Dan Harary, the group held its kickoff meeting Nov. 2 at the Musso & Frank restaurant in Hollywood.

The goal is to provide a more unified voice in the media leading up to and following what UFO researchers have long wanted and now expect: an official end to what the group calls the “government-imposed truth embargo” about the presence of extraterrestrial life.

Harary pointed out that some 600 feature films have been produced depicting aliens, flying saucers and the like, all based on fiction.

“We imagine the day when they can be based on fact,” he said in a statement. “As a three-time UFO experiencer myself…I am quite convinced that many of the UAP sightings around the world during the past 80 years have literally come to Earth from out of this world.”

Among the board members of the new organization on the Hollywood side: Paul Hynek, the son of Project Blue Book’s science officer J. Allen Hynek and UFO consultant to Steven Spielberg on “Close Encounters”; Sean Jablonski, a television producer of the “Project Blue Book” series, among others, and Steve Longi, a producer of  “Hacksaw Ridge.”

Founding members include Dee Wallace, who starred in “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial”; UFO researchers Richard Dolan and Nick Pope, stars of TV’s “Ancient Aliens,” and Kathleen Marden, the niece of Barney and Betty Hill, probably the most famous alleged alien abductees.

If you’ve noticed a rise in good vegan restaurants, consider this: A vegan restaurant in Redondo Beach has made it to the top of this year’s Yelp list of “Top 100 Places to Eat in L.A. County.”

Lil’ Vegerie gets five stars on Yelp, where patrons rave about its fresh bowls including “Mushroom Carne Asada” and “BBQ Jackfruit.”

To come up with its list, Yelp said it considers “a number of factors” including each restaurant’s total volume of reviews as well as its customer ratings, of course.

The list of top restaurants, which came out last week, is also notable for the number of ethnic restaurants clustered at the upper end. After Lil Vegerie, the top diners, in order, are Lal Mirch Indian Restaurant in Studio City; Chung Ki Wa, a Korean barbecue eatery in Koreatown; Mex Peru Gipsy, a Mexican-Peruvian restaurant near the Fashion District downtown, and Zaatar N More, a Lebanese diner in Northridge.
