Throughout his career, as well as his non-legal role in the Los Angeles community, Scott Burton has served as a strong, active mentor. While working as an economist, Burton played a lead role in recruiting and training young talent from premier national economics and econometrics programs, including the University of Chicago, Cal Tech, MIT and Harvey Mudd College.
Burton served on the recruiting committee at his former firms, actively participated in the OCS legal recruitment function, and served as an associate mentor to summer associates and new first-year associates. Burton continued to serve as a strong mentor to many colleagues, including some who are now in-house at prominent clients such as Chevron, All Energy and Vigor Industries; and who now are prominent environmental practitioners and in some cases environmental team heads at competing law firms. Burton also has actively mentored many prominent lawyers coming out of government service.
Most recently, Burton has taken under his wing former FERC/OGC Environmental Justice team head Conrad Bolston, who Burton recruited to Norton Rose Fulbright mid2025. Bolston was a promising athlete recruited to the University of Maryland football program, then played two years in the NFL as a defensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Despite a serious career-ending health issue, Bolston persevered, pivoted and attained a law degree from Georgetown University in Washington DC, then worked at other firms.
