John-Paul (JP) Motley is the partner in charge of Cooley’s Los Angeles office and practices within the firm’s public companies group. He focuses his practice on advising public and private companies and their board of directors on transactional and corporate governance matters. Motley represents clients in equity and debt capital market transactions, ranging from IPOs and secondary offerings to high-yield, convertible and investment-grade debt issuances. He also assists clients with Securities and Exchange Commission reporting and disclosure issues. His clients include those within the technology, retail, airline, energy, engineering and construction, automotive, recreational vehicle and financial services industries. After joining Cooley as a partner in March 2022, Motley quickly became a firm asset. The firm appointed him as partner in charge of the newly-established downtown Los Angeles office in 2022. He dedicates himself to growing the nascent office through strategic hires and providing high-quality representation to his clients.
