David Lash is the architect and leader of one of the country’s finest pro bono programs. He has been successful in being a visible and effective public interest leader. He has led the effort to use the law to preserve liberties, including civil rights, reproductive rights, housing rights and more. He was recently awarded the LA County Bar’s highest accolade, the Jim Robey Community Service Award, and UCLA Law School is recognizing his place in the community at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of its Public Interest Program. During just the past year, Lash produced and had distributed virtually to every lawyer in the County a 4.5 minute video, “Housing Justice Is Racial Justice,” that used well-known celebrity voices to urge the region’s lawyers to get involved in representing tenants facing the loss of their homes. This led to a significant upsurge in pro bono support.
