Monica Gutierrez-McCarthy is the president and CEO of Eisner Health, California’s oldest community health center and one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers in Los Angeles County. She leads an organization of more than 500 employees across 16 health center locations, providing comprehensive healthcare services to more than 47,000 patients and delivering over 230,000 patient visits each year. With more than 18 years of healthcare leadership experience, she is recognized for transforming organizations through strategic leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare.
Since becoming President and CEO in March 2024, Gutierrez-McCarthy has led one of the most significant periods of growth and transformation in Eisner Health’s 106-year history. At a time when community health centers across California faced unprecedented financial uncertainty, rising operating costs, workforce challenges, and evolving reimbursement models, she strengthened Eisner Health’s financial foundation while simultaneously expanding access to care. Her leadership has proven that financial strength and compassionate care are not competing priorities – they are inseparable. By building a stronger organization, Eisner Health has been able to care for more patients, expand into more communities, and ensure that its mission will endure for generations to come.
Under her leadership, patient revenue has increased by 42.9%, annual patient visits have grown by 24%, and the organization’s financial position has strengthened dramatically, with days cash on hand more than doubling. These achievements were not the result of reducing services, but of thoughtfully improving operations, investing in people and tech-nology, and creating a stronger organization capable of serving more patients for years to come.
