NANCY SHER COHEN
Partner; Leader, Insurance Recovery & Counseling Practice Team
Lathrop GPM
A respected lawyer of 40-plus years, Nancy Sher Cohen entered the legal world when the glass ceiling was still very much intact, especially in litigation departments. She often stood alone as a sole female on large teams, but that has never stopped her. Cohen has held lead positions at several top-tier national law firms and has served as lead counsel in the prosecution of many insurance coverage lawsuits resulting in recoveries over $1.5 billion. Cohen’s noteworthy work includes the prosecution of claims by Holocaust survivors against insurance carriers, serving as counsel for the lender on the World Trade Center in prosecuting claims for the towers’ insurance coverage, and advising on insurance issues related to Los Angeles’ successful bid for the 2028 Summer Olympics. Cohen also represented homeowners and real estate developers affected by California’s Thomas Fire, and those affected by the proceeding mudslides in the Montecito area. Today, Cohen is a partner and a leader of the Insurance Recovery & Counseling Group at Lathrop GPM.
The firm recruited Cohen in late 2017 seeking the right individual to rejuvenate and bring local visibility to its Los Angeles office and national visibility to its insurance recovery work. Cohen continues to litigate cases for significant companies on precedent-setting matters and her clients have included household name companies such as Wells Fargo Bank, Aerojet, Alpha Therapeutic, ARCO, Arconic, BP, GMAC Commercial Mortgage, Heinz, Capmark, McDonald’s, PinnOak Resources, Sony Electronics Inc., Block Real Estate Services, Mitsubishi Chemical and Meggitt Corporation.
