Sherman Oaks apparel company Cherokee Global Brands has entered into a licensing agreement that will bring Tony Hawk apparel to Walmart Canada stores next fall. The deal includes a broad selection of the skateboarder’s line of clothing, accessories and footwear aimed at boys and young men.
“This strategic relationship between Walmart and Cherokee Global Brands is a game-changer for us as we forge a new partnership with one of the largest and most innovative retailers in the world,” Henry Stupp, Cherokee’s chief executive, said in a prepared statement.
Cherokee’s brand portfolio also includes Carole Little, Liz Lange and Sideout. Licensing the Hawk brand to Walmart Canada is another step in the company’s long-term expansion: Last month it entered into an agreement with Netherlands-based Saborn Licensing Co. B.V. to manufacture and distribute Cherokee-branded apparel throughout Western and Central Europe starting next year.
The company sells apparel and accessories through retailers in 40 countries, including China, Russia, Israel, Mexico and India.
Shares closed up Friday $1.25, or nearly 7 percent, to $18.30 on the Nasdaq.
