Nordstrom Rack Plans Two Stores

Retailer Nordstrom is opening two Nordstrom Rack locations in Marina del Rey and Torrance.

Two Nordstrom Rack locations are coming to the region next summer.

A discount line under Seattle-based Nordstrom Inc., Nordstrom Rack will expand into Marina del Rey and Torrance, adding to the retailer’s extensive California portfolio. It currently operates a combined 95 stores across its discount and full-priced locations in California, including five within the city of Los Angeles.
“We’re excited to grow our footprint in the Los Angeles market and introduce new customers to the Nordstrom experience,” said Gemma Lionello, president of Nordstrom Rack, in a statement.

The two stores, each covering 30,000 square feet, will be located at Marina Marketplace and Rolling Hills Plaza.

Balancing retail options

Scott Burns, senior managing director at JLL who handled leasing and management for Marina Marketplace, said that adding Nordstrom Rack to the strip mall would balance its offerings with “soft goods” like clothes. Currently, the strip mall is home to a Gelson’s Market, an Equinox gym and an AMC dine-in theatre.

“Our sector, especially Southern California, is still being led by the discounters,” Burns told the Business Journal. “A lot of capital is still chasing retail … Everyone likes a deal, and everyone likes name-brand clothing, and Nordstrom still resonates with the Southern California community.”

Since going private in an all-cash acquisition deal in May 2025 by its founding family and Mexican retail group El Puerto de Liverpool, Nordstrom has been quietly attracting premium customers with its discount line. Forbes reported a quarter of Nordstrom Rack customers have moved over to the full-priced line to shop.
