Unsubscribe.com, a Santa Monica company that helps consumers unsubscribe from unwanted email, has been acquired by TrustedID.
TrustedID, a Palo Alto company that provides a subscription-based credit and identity protection services, announced the deal late Tuesday but did not disclose financial terms.
Unsubscribe.com, known for its proprietary Social Monitor tool, works by monitoring and updating its system to stop potentially malicious applications and the unwanted emails from particular sources. The start-up, which was founded by James Siminoff, had venture capital backing from Charles River Ventures, First Round Capital, DFJ Frontier and angel investors.
“Social Monitor is anti-virus for social networks,” said TrustedID Chief Executive Scott Mitic in a statement. “As social networks – and the amount of information shared on them – accelerate, consumers need more tools to safeguard their information.”
