Myspace and Google Inc. have signed a multi-year agreement to renew and expand their long-standing search and advertising relationship.
Under the terms of the agreement announced Thursday, Google will continue to power Santa Monica-based Myspace’s search and search advertising and will provide additional display advertising services.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Under the previous 2006 deal, the Mountain View company guaranteed $900 million to News Corp., which bought MySpace in 2005, for the right to sell advertisements related to user searches on MySpace and some other News Corp sites.
Since losing its pioneering spot as the top social networking site to FaceBook, MySpace has attempted to reinvent itself by capitalizing on its popularity among musicians. The company in October relaunched the website with a focus on sharing videos, music, games and other media.
“We’re thrilled about renewing our partnership with Google. Their best-in class technology will continue to provide our consumers with a robust search experience,” said Nada Stirratt, Myspace chief revenue officer, in a statement.
