The Bee is closing its San Francisco and Los Angeles news bureaus, saying it needs to focus its resources more fully on the Sacramento area, the Sacramento Bee reports.
The decision affects three veteran reporters and comes as The Bee, like practically every daily U.S. newspaper, struggles with slumping circulation and advertising. But Executive Editor Rick Rodriguez said the reporters have been offered jobs with The Bee in Sacramento, and he insisted the paper isn’t surrendering its mission of covering government, politics and other issues of statewide importance.
Still, he said The Bee’s future is increasingly local, mirroring a trend at many other papers.
