President, Service Employees International Union, United Service Workers West
A well-known labor leader, Huerta looks out for the welfare of service
workers primarily in the commercial real estate industry – security
officers, airport workers, janitors and more. Many were hit hard from
the pandemic with loss of lives and income. Part of Huerta’s new focus
is the Los Angeles city’s living-wage ordinance. Under Huerta’s leadership,
hundreds of SEIU-USWW members have become U.S. citizens.
Huerta last year added the title of president of the SEIU California to
oversee legislative work in the state capital. With other L.A. labor leaders,
Huerta was vocal in calling for the resignation of L.A. City Council
members Kevin De Leon and Gil Cedillo.
