LA500 2023: Earvin “Magic” Johnson

Chief Executive, Magic Johnson Enterprises

Johnson started his nonprofit in 1991, the year he stopped playing
in the NBA for the Lakers because of his HIV diagnosis. It continues
to address educational, health and social needs of ethnically diverse
urban communities in Los Angeles. Magic Johnson Enterprises, which
maintains itself “as a catalyst for fostering community and economic
empowerment” through addressing the “demands of multicultural
communities,” is a major funder for his foundation. Johnson’s
part-ownership of the MLB’s Dodgers, Major Soccer League’s Los
Angeles Football Club and WNBA Sparks continues to give him a high
networking profile on the sports business landscape.
