2022 Top 100 Accountants Awards: Diversity, Equity + Inclusion Focused Firm of the Year – GHJ

GHJ

GHJ believes diversity is both its legacy and future. The firm embraced its diverse workforce long before diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives entered the conversation. The focus of GHJ’s diversity efforts is twofold. First, to ensure that the workplace reflects the rich diversity of the people in the communities GHJ serves. Second, to enable groups of people underrepresented in the accounting industry to thrive at GHJ as well as in the profession as a whole.Knowing that a diversity of perspectives and voices is necessary for any truly great enterprise, GHJ aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all current and future members of the firm.

Together, GHJ’s team continues to build an inclusive culture that encourages, supports and celebrates the diverse voices of its employees. It fuels the firm’s innovation and connects them closer to the clients and the communities they serve.GHJ currently has three employee-led cohorts that focus on empowering women, BIPOC and working parents. Each cohort is led by a group of employees at all levels. Cohorts meet regularly to discuss common challenges or opportunities. They also build programming based around building understanding and camaraderie. This includes guest speakers, group activities and community events.

In addition to providing a voice for underrepresented voices, these cohorts also contribute to a culture of allyship. In addition, GHJ requires all employees to participate in unconscious bias training once per year. This training allows the staff to look deeper at any unrealized biases and learn solutions on how to change behavior.
