‘Money Monster’ With George Clooney Seeks Box Office Dollars
Irate investor Jack O'Connell asks financial TV-show host George Clooney where all his money went in the new film "Money Monster."

A look at the plots of this weekend’s big new movie release from a business perspective.

The stock of a tech company suddenly drops off a cliff and that’s not good news for the TV financial expert who has repeatedly told the viewers of his show, “Mad Money,” to invest in that firm, in the new Jodie Foster-directed thriller “Money Monster.”

One of those viewers, a truck driver who gambled his entire $60,000 nest egg on the host’s tip, comes looking for revenge with explosives and a gun and takes the TV star hostage live on air.

As the slick host played by George Clooney – think a better looking version of Jim Cramer from “Mad Money” – tries to stay alive while also boosting his ratings, it soon appears the real blame lies with the tech firm’s obviously corrupt chief executive.

Julia Roberts and Jack O’Connell star in this this release from Sony subsidiary TriStar Pictures.
