The Los Angeles Times reported that thousands of Los Angeles workers, including many from the fast-food and garment industries, joined a national protest Tuesday to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Workers taking part in the so-called “Fight for 15” campaign are also calling for the right to form a union.

Los Angeles is one of 270 cities expected to participate in the protest, which is being backed by the Service Employees International Union.
