The Los Angeles area already has three potential sites for an NFL football stadium. But now, there appears to be a fourth.
The Business Journal has learned that in recent weeks, executives with football teams have been scouting a golf course on county land as a possible location for a stadium and related entertainment complex. The 172-acre site, now Victoria Park and golf course, is near the interchange of the 405 and 110 freeways, and it is next to the Goodyear blimp field. The site is also fairly near Orange County, so any stadium could draw fans from there.
Reporter Howard Fine talked to an Orange County developer who is buying into the golf course as a partner. He confirmed that he has been approached by two teams, which he would not name. He added that his main interest was in running a golf course; the NFL teams approached him.
The Business Journal also contacted an NLF team executive who, interestingly, knew a great deal about the Victoria Park site. The executive pointed out that it is on an old landfill, so cleanup would be a big challenge.
Also, since the golf course is on county land, any change in use would have to be approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Mark Ridley-Thomas, who is the supervisor in that area, told the Business Journal that any development proposal resulting in a higher and better use of the land will be considered by the supervisors.
The other three potential sites for an NFL stadium are in the City of Industry, downtown Los Angeles and Inglewood.
