Hot Topic CFO Resigns

Jim McGinty, Hot Topic Inc.’s chief financial officer, has resigned effective March 29.

The City of Industry apparel and accessory retailer on Tuesday said that George Wehlitz, vice president of finance, will serve as interim CFO while the company looks for a successor to McGinty, who has been with the retailer for 12 years. The company did not provide a reason for McGinty’s departure.

Wehlitz, 52, worked in various financial roles at Hot Topic from 2002 to 2005 before moving on to serve in a variety of retail finance positions, including CFO, at Cycle Gear Inc., Popcorn Factory and Bombay Company Inc. He returned to Hot Topic in 2008.

Shares closed down 17 cents, or 1.5 percent, to $11.11 on the Nasdaq.
