The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of largest local public companies closed up for the week.

The weighted LABJ Stock Index closed up 1.5 percent to 180.01 for the trading week ended Dec. 27. Gainers outpaced decliners 121 to 29, with 10 companies unchanged.

The biggest mover was ImmunoCellular Therapeutics, jumping 41 percent to $1.02. The Woodland Hills biotech shares earlier plunged earlier this month after some disappointing clinical trial results, but the company has announced it has begun an early-stage clinical trial for a brain-cancer vaccine and expects to have three cancer-vaccine programs in progress next year.

Two other life science companies made strong gains without any announcements. Staar Surgical Co., a Monrovia maker of implantable lenses for the eye, rose 21 percent to $16.10. Arrowhead Research Corp., a Pasadena biotech, gained 16 percent to $10.92.

Ceres Inc. fell 6 percent to $1.47. The Thousand Oaks developer of bio-fuel crops said two longtime directors would not seek re-election next year.
