Jesse James reportedly is closing his West Coast Choppers custom motorcycle shop, which became a Long Beach landmark by appearing in a popular reality TV show.

TMZ.com reported Tuesday night that James was closing his flagship location in order to concentrate on his Texas operations. But the Long Beach Post website said the shop’s employees hadn’t been given official word as of midday Wednesday. Calls to the business were not returned,

A 41-year-old Lynwood native, James rose to tabloid notoriety after his business was featured in the Discovery Channel series “Monster Garage,” which he helped create. His celebrity clients over the years have included Shaquille O’Neal and Kid Rock.

In January, the city of Long Beach honored the business by renaming part of a street leading to it “West Coast Choppers Place.” West Coast Choppers also is a lifestyle brand, known by its distinctive Maltese cross logo that appears on clothing, beverages and tools.

James has dealt with intense negative publicity since his third wife, actress Sandra Bullock, divorced him this year after a cheating scandal.
