Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance has an unusual tax “relief” contest.

Until April 15, those who sign up on the hotel’s Facebook page will be entered in a contest to win a high-tech toilet system.

The combination toilet and bidet, which retails for about $600, features dual spray nozzles, a warm water wash and a heated seat. The hotel has the toilet system in each of its 208 rooms.

“The toilet is a symbol of the difference between Miyako and all the other hotels,” said Cherie Davis, general manager. High-tech toilets have long been popular in Japan.

For those who have never experienced what the hotel calls the “Ultimate Home Throne,” Miyako is marketing its Experience Japan weekend getaway package for only $149 per person through April.

As for the connection between toilets and taxes, the first provides relief and the second provides the need for it.
