The Business Journal salutes seven octogenarians and one nonagenarian for whom age is just a number.

ROGER WILLIAMS, 85

Pianist “Mr. Piano”

Why not retire?

It hasn’t entered my mind.

Do you think you will ever retire?

Not as long as these old tires are still rolling along.

What’s the best aspect of working past 80?

You’re still young at heart.

What’s the worst?

The Grim Reaper is out to get you.

How do you keep up-to-date with industry trends and learn those “new tricks” they say old dogs can’t?

Us old dogs try to learn the new tricks, but, oh, how we resist.

What’s your career goal?

I honestly believe that the best part of my career is ahead of me. I’m playing better than ever.

What advice would you give to people who want to follow in your footsteps?

Follow in your own footsteps.

What’s the best advice you ever got?

I gave it to myself: Take what you want out of life, but pay for it.

What’s the secret of your vitality?

I listen to my body.

Do you work more or fewer hours today than you did in your 30s and 40s?

I work fewer hours, but I try to make each one really count. I may not be as good hourwise as I once was, but I’m as good as I once was.
