Deloitte & Touche Media Executive Covers Many Bases

Ken August works out of a downtown Los Angeles office, but his phone calls cover a lot of ground.

August begins his business day early on the phone with East Coast and international customers. The new vice chairman of U.S. media and entertainment leader of Deloitte & Touche then focuses on local client matters.

He rounds out his workday with the firm’s in-house business: press relations, community service, personnel development and relationship-building.

“I set business strategy, do recruiting as well as developing personnel, and work in an advisory capacity to nearly 500 media and entertainment clients,” he said.

August has been working in the entertainment advisory sector for more than 20 years. He began his career as a consultant at Touche Ross, not too long before it merged with Deloitte Haskins Sells in 1989. Later, August left and spent five years as an attorney at Ziffren Brittenham Branca & Fischer, rejoining Deloitte & Touche this fall.

“The best thing about my job, without doubt, is the opportunity it affords me to work with truly extraordinary people on fascinating and challenging issues,” said August said.

Of the current challenges facing the entertainment sector, August said: “First and foremost is the impact of the digital revolution, including new digital distribution channels, the shift to a digital supply chain and the implications for new and exciting business models. For me, the business has never been more exciting.”

August lives in Hancock Park with his wife, Patty. They have two grown daughters, Joanna and Erica, who reside in Southern California. An avid angler, August has traveled the world to fish for over 25 years.
