DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. has agreed to pay about $21.8 million to the Steven Spielberg-endowed Wunderkinder Foundation to buy back 706,330 shares of the company’s stock.

Shares of the Glendale-based computer animation company will be bought back at $30.86 per share, 2 cents above Tuesday’s closing price of $30.84, according to a Wednesday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The repurchase will be completed on Thursday.

The Wunderkinder Foundation is a charitable organization originally established by Spielberg, and the shares were received from a donation by Spielberg. Spielberg, a Dreamworks founder who is the beneficial owner of more than 5 percent of Dreamwork’s shares, is in the process of transitioning away from a production role at the company.

Dreamwork shares were down 57 cents, or 2 percent, in mid-morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
