Hot Topic Wavers on March Sales Data

Shares in Hot Topic Inc. closed down 5.6 percent Wednesday, then bounced back in after-market trading when the retailer said its March same-store sales fell less than expected.


The City of Industry-based retailer said its same store sales fell 3.5 percent, less of a drop than the 4.4 percent decrease projected by analysts polled by Thomson Financial.


Total sales for the month rose 0.7 percent to $63.7 million. Year-to-date, the teen retailer said that same-store sales fell 2.9 percent, while total sales are up 0.9 percent to $114 million.


The company’s shares were up 4.6 percent to $4.40 in after-market trading.
