Early Days/Financing:

It was a bootstrapped company that started in 1997 with seed money from founder James Miles and a handful of technical guys working out of a garage. For the first four years, we did some beta projects but mostly focused on developing the technology. NxTV was the first in the market to deliver content to hotels over an IP network.

Big Break:

Our first big break was Beverly Hills’ Peninsula Hotel. When they saw our technology and saw that it worked, they wanted to be the first. Shortly after, we signed Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons and then Hotel Bel-Air.

Biggest Challenge:

When you’re a bootstrapped startup, fighting tooth and nail for every deal, you don’t have time to put processes together to scale the business.

Secret of Success:

We created IP video-on-demand when no one else had a product like that. So we created this thing, but had to educate the market that it needed it. It also helps that a federal mandate is forcing the entire country to switch to digital television by February 2009.

What’s Next:

We’re looking at getting into other markets open to premium service video-on-demand technology, such as hospitals, higher education, cruise ships and high-rise condos.
