Ticketmaster Sues StubHub

Ticketmaster sued eBay Inc. and its subsidiary StubHub, alleging that the companies interfered with Ticketmaster’s contractual rights to be an exclusive vendor of certain shows.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims that StubHub is selling “official premium tickets” to the Lynyrd Skynyrd/Hank Williams Jr. “Rowdy Frynds” tour. Hollywood-based Ticketmaster claims in the suit that violates the company’s exclusive right to sell tickets on that tour.

The suit didn’t specify how many tickets were involved nor did it specify a dollar amount in sought damages. But it did allege that such practices were designed “as part of a larger scheme to diminish Ticketmaster’s role in the sale of tickets.” Ticketmaster said it is seeking all of StubHub’s revenue from the sale of tickets from the tour, plus punitive damages as well as a permanent injunction preventing StubHub from future business practices that it says violate its contractual rights.

Ticketmaster’s top price for the “Rowdy Frynds” tour is $70; StubHub’s tickets for a May 5 show in West Virginia were selling for $250 each. A representative for the Lynyrd Skynyrd band could not be reached. A spokesman for StubHub declined comment and said the company had not seen the suit.
