Disney Inks Deal With Payless

Walt Disney Co. said Tuesday that it has signed an agreement for exclusive branded children’s footwear to be made and sold by Payless ShoeSource Inc.

This marks the latest move by the Burbank-based entertainment company to work directly with retailers instead of traditionally dealing with licensees, who sell the product to retailers.

The multiyear deal will feature characters including Disney Princesses, Winnie the Pooh and the cast from Power Rangers. It marks Disney’s first direct-to-retail program for character footwear.

The shoes will sell for between $12 and $22, and will be available exclusively next spring in Payless stores and on Payless.com.

Shares in Disney were up 11 cents to $33.23 early Tuesday.
