Strong sales helped profits quadruple for Trio-Tech International.

The Van Nuys-based computer equipment testing company reported first quarter net income of $756,000 (23 cents a share), a large improvement over a net loss of $214,000 (-8 cents) for the same period a year earlier.

Revenue increased 73 percent to $9.9 million, bolstered mainly by increased demand for the company’s computer chip testing equipment in Asia.

Shares in Trio-Tech were up 17 cents to $2.05 in early trading Thursday.
