The NBA Board of Governors said Thursday that it unanimously approved the $10 million sale of the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks. The deal is expected to be announced Thursday afternoon.

Los Angeles-based lawyers Kathy Goodman and Carla Christofferson are heading a private investment group that is buying the team, which is owned by Dr. Jerry Buss, who also owns a majority of the Los Angeles Lakers.

A news conference is scheduled for Thursday afternoon when particulars of the deal will be announced. According to reports, the team is expected to continue playing at the Staples Center.

The Sparks have been one of the WNBA’s most successful teams, winning nearly 68 percent of its games and two league championships. However, the team and league do not draw large, NBA-sized crowds.

The team has been in L.A. and owned by Buss for 10 years.
