The price of gas in Southern California continues to drop, and in some areas is even below $3 a gallon, the Energy Information Administration and the Automobile Association of America said on Monday.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles Area was $3.13 for the week ending August 28, down almost 7 cents from the previous week, according to the EIA. The national average dropped nearly 8 cents to $2.85 from last week and has shed 15 cents a gallon in the past two weeks.

L.A. prices are 36 cents higher than they were a year ago and statewide, the average price sits around $3.10, down 6 cents from the previous week and down 11 cents from two weeks ago — but up 32 cents from one year ago.

Nationwide, Los Angeles still has the most expensive gas among all major cities, and was one of only three cities (San Francisco, $3.05 and Chicago, $3.07) with gas over the $3-a-gallon mark. California was the most expensive state while Ohio continues to be the state with the cheapest gas with an average of $2.71 a gallon, beating Texas, $2.71 and Minnesota, $2.79.
