SmartVideo Technologies, Inc. and E! Entertainment Television announced on Tuesday an agreement to provide entertainment content for cell phones.

The service, which runs $12.95 per month, will feature clips from L.A.-based E! Entertainment’s shows “E! News,” “The Awful Truth,” “Wild On!” and red carpet interviews.

E! will deliver its entertainment news and lifestyle programming utilizing SmartVideo’s streaming technology that allows video and audio broadcasts to be played on mobile phones. Nearly 70 million phones in the U.S. are equipped with media players that support the SmartVideo system, the Norcross, Ga.-based firm said in a release.

E! joins SmartVideo’s other content partners, which include ABC News, CNBC, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, FOX Sports Network, IFILM and Fashion TV.

“Revenues in this burgeoning industry could grow from around $33 million in 2004 to over $1.9 billion by 2008,” said Herman Rush, managing director of Media Consulting Associates, which negotiated the deal. “Companies like E! have recognized this and are capitalizing on an opportunity in the wireless arena.”
