The arraignment of Juan Manuel Alvarez, the 25-year-old man who allegedly caused this week’s Metrolink train crash, on charges of murder was delayed until Feb. 15, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Alvarez’s lawyer, Eric Chase, asked for the delay due to his client’s medical condition, said District Attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison. Chase also asked that Alvarez receive a mental evaluation, she said.

Alvarez has been charged with 10 counts of murder and possibly the death penalty. Eleven people died on two Metrolink trains that collided Jan. 26 after one derailed when it struck Alvarez’s SUV, which he allegedly parked on the tracks in a failed suicide attempt.
