PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., a Cypress-based unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., said Tuesday that it will work with six major supermarkets and drugstores to market its new Medicare prescription drug plans.

PacifiCare, which was acquired by UnitedHealth last week, said it is working with Albertson’s Inc., Longs Drug Stores Corp., Safeway Inc., Target, Walgreen Co. and Medicine Shoppe International Inc.

The deal covers almost 11,000 retail outlets nationwide.

PacifiCare will provide information about the drug plans through enrollment kits, kiosks and sales materials at the stores. The company is also developing educational materials, such as an online learning module, designed to help pharmacists and retail professionals answer customer questions and simplify the enrollment process.

In a release, Jacqueline Kosecoff, PacifiCare’s executive vice president of specialty companies, said the managed care provider was “confident our partners will play a key role in providing information and resources that will bring more clarity to Medicare consumers.”
